In 2021 we launched our own sustainability initiative VAST GREEN – so, besides our daily projects, the whole VAST FORWARD team focused particularly on one topic: sustainability.
In an interview VAST FORWARD founder Maren Wagener and her husband and business partner Matthias Wagener describe the VAST GREEN journey as a process that has evolved over some years and slowly shaped what VAST GREEN is today: a holistic sustainability strategy for VAST FORWARD, developed as a team effort.
The decision to develop a sustainability strategy for VAST FORWARD was no coincidence, as Maren and Matthias have been living energy- and water-self-sufficiently on sailing boats since 2016. Being so close to nature and living with the weather, the two experience weather changes first hand. One consequence was the sensitization for their own responsibility, to live more sustainable, with a low ecological footprint. Sustainability has been a main component of their personal lifestyle for many years. Also, as parents of two critical children and through the Fridays for Future movement, they have become increasingly aware of the urgency for real change not only in their private lives, but also on a professional level for VAST FORWARD. The company has been 100% remotely structured since its founding and has always been value-based – shared values for the whole team are still the basis for successful work in virtual teams today! In 2020, sustainability was added as an additional value. And today, already in the process of strategy implementation, sustainability is an integral part of our core business and is lived by the entire VAST FORWARD team – a decision that shaped VAST GREEN.
