Our sustainability initiative ‘Vast Green’ is now, two years after its launch, a central element of our everyday life and the promise: ‘We Do Not Just Compensate’ is our mantra and our mission. We also want to reduce our environmental impact as a remotely structured organization, promote social responsibility and bring about positive change in our industry within our means.
We started sharing our journey and (small) progress on our channels early on: on social media and on our blog, with challenges and posts from the whole team, and with a growing group of specialists in our expert interviews. This is our self-imposed reporting obligation – set out in the fundamentals of our sustainability initiative VAST GREEN! This way, we share experiences, challenges and successes by focusing on practical tips, as a resource for all those who are also on their own sustainability journey.
Since mid-2022, we’ve had another easy way to tap into these resources: we’ve added a podcast to our content portfolio – our ‘Viertel Eins’ podcast.
First, let’s talk about the title ‘Viertel Eins’. Maren and Matthias chose it while brainstorming one afternoon when they were sailing on their VAST catamaran.
What do we mean by that?
No doubt many of you are familiar with the term ‘Doomsday Clock’. Wikipedia says the Doomsday Clock intends to illustrate the current risk of a global catastrophe, especially due to a nuclear war or a climate catastrophe, to the public.
The background is, of course, the saying ‘It’s five minutes to twelve’, which certainly does not need to be explained further here. We are convinced that action must be taken in the whole complex of climate change: together and with the understanding that we are late. That’s why the title ‘Viertel Eins’ = ‘quarter past 12’ fits perfectly.
So the title points to the problem: little is happening at most levels of sustainability. We know that globally we should have taken much clearer action. By the way: the Doomsday Clock is ‘only’ 90 seconds to 12 today in April 2023, which should be alarming enough (via Statista you can find a timeline with the development since 1947.
So, rattling is part of the business – from our point of view, it’s ‘quarter to one’!
And that’s exactly what is reflected in the topics of the podcast.
‘Viertel Eins’ accompanies our sustainability initiative VAST GREEN: We report on our progress and there is a lot to talk about the ‘how’: How did we start our sustainability journey as a digital company? How did we shape our journey, from the first ideas on sustainability to ‘CO2 neutrality’ in 2022? How do you get partners on your side? And there are topics that go far beyond our entrepreneurial journey – for which we have sought and found experts who share their respective insights with us.
The guests are from different industries, with their professional focus and their respective view on sustainability approaches in their business environment and how they evaluate and integrate the topic of sustainability.
We are definitely happy that our podcast format ‘Viertel Eins’ is so well received by you and that we can talk about our heart project with exciting guests in these short 20-minute episodes. There are still some exciting topics in the pipeline, and we can’t wait to share new episodes with you – we look forward to your feedback!
Until then, happy listening!
